In my opinion, the main reason for this trend can be attributed to a misalignment of interests involved, a situation that requires careful consideration.<\/p>\n\n

To understand what I am saying, we need to start by examining if the players who are exiting the market are servicers who specialize in purchasing and managing credit or investors who have third-party servicers handle the credit management and recovery phase.<\/p>\n\n

In the first case, commonly found in large European purchasing and credit management groups, a disconnect occurs between the Sales department, which is responsible for the budget and the purchase of the target amount in terms of GVB, and the Operations department, which subsequently has to enforce the assumed recovery curves.<\/p>\n\n

We are aware that the recovery curves are in a sense \u201cmodified\u201d to win deals and meet the purchase budget. Obviously, to remain competitive these are adjusted upward and never downward. At that point it then becomes a problem for the Operations department, which struggles with recovery curves that it cannot meet.<\/strong> This creates significant organizational dysfunction, with executive turnover and lack of accountability for past losses.<\/p>\n\n

In the second case, on the other hand, investors interested in the Italian market hire experts in due diligence to come up with mind-blowing recovery curves, and then hire external servicers to ground what has just been said. Obviously, the servicer does its job, which is to recover the debt, receives a fee<\/em> for the work done, and is not directly responsible for the recovery curves generated by the investors. And then if he does not perform, he is then replaced with another servicer.<\/p>\n\n

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the business of debt collection is not limited to out of court credit management but has legal implications, data information, segmentation strategy, and many other little things. In short, the control room sometimes struggles to take hold and focuses more on the individual regulatory aspect than on credit recovery or what that really means.<\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, this modus operandi can lead to losing control of the credit management chain and negatively affect the recovery curves.<\/p>\n\n

The vision shared by myself and my partner Carlo Palla<\/a>, with whom together with ViViBanca S.p.A.<\/a> we represent 100% of IPV Investing SpA<\/a>, is to bring together investors and recovery specialists under one roof, with the same goals and shared knowledge of risks.<\/p>\n\n

I leave you with an example.<\/p>\n\n

If the recovery curves are generated by the person who will do the recovery, who also invested in the purchase of the portfolio using his own resources, together with the institutional investor, the game changes completely. Why? Because there is a complete alignment of objectives and a focus on being prudent in buying this or that portfolio. The goal, then, is not to make the budget necessarily if the price and return on investment assumptions are not there.<\/p>\n\n

When the entrepreneur puts his own capital, the dynamic radically changes, and in the case of IPV, we talk about our capitals. We also have an important asset: our reputation, so we have all the interest to pursue the right path with realistic projects that we choose to pursue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
